The 2026-27 Broadway in Richmond season is half new shows, half old favorites, and the biggest name on the list is a familiar one. Hamilton is coming back to the Altria Theater for a two-week run from February 23 to March 7, 2027.
When the season was announced in March, local station WTVR summed up the lineup as Harry Potter, Alexander Hamilton and Johnny Castle hitting the stage in Richmond. The six-show subscription opened with Dirty Dancing in September. The Notebook follows in early November, then Alicia Keys' Hell's Kitchen in May, Just in Time in June and Buena Vista Social Club in July. The season ends in August with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Hamilton is one of two add-on options for subscribers, and A Christmas Story: The Musical fills the Thanksgiving weekend.
Hamilton barely needs an introduction, but it's worth remembering how unusual it still is. Lin-Manuel Miranda's story of Alexander Hamilton, told through hip-hop, R&B and classic show tunes, opened at the Public Theater in 2015 before moving to Broadway. It went on to win 11 Tony Awards. The touring production keeps Thomas Kail's direction and Andy Blankenbuehler's choreography, and songs like "My Shot," "The Schuyler Sisters" and "Yorktown" still land the way they did ten years ago.
The Richmond run has 16 performances, and public sales opened in September, as 12 On Your Side reported when tickets were released. Weekend evenings and the matinees are usually the first to go.
The Altria is one of the grandest rooms on the touring circuit. The theater opened in the late 1920s as the Mosque, with its Moorish-style towers and painted ceilings, and seats about 3,500 people across the orchestra and balconies. It faces Monroe Park on the edge of VCU's campus, a short walk from Broad Street restaurants. One practical note for families: Broadway in Richmond doesn't admit children under 6 to most performances, and everyone needs their own ticket.
Seating charts, prices and all 16 dates are on our Hamilton at the Altria Theater page. With only two weeks in town, it's worth choosing your date sooner rather than later.
