Welcome to the Agelforus Volunteer Role Matrix. This resource is designed to help you understand the various volunteer roles available within our organization.
Agelforus serves as a directory for associations in Phnom Penh, featuring member listings, chapters, and profiles of community organizations. Our aim is to provide clarity and support for all community members.
The Volunteer Role Matrix outlines the responsibilities and expectations for each role, making it easier for you to find a position that aligns with your skills and interests. Below are the key roles:
- Coordinator: Oversees volunteer activities and ensures smooth operations.
- Communications Officer: Manages outreach and engagement with the community.
- Event Organizer: Plans and executes community events.
- Fundraising Specialist: Develops strategies to secure funding for initiatives.
- Member Support: Assists members with inquiries and provides resources.
By understanding these roles, you can contribute effectively to our mission and help strengthen the community. We encourage you to explore these opportunities and join us in making a positive impact in Phnom Penh.
Using the Matrix to Match Skills, Time and Commitment
A role title only tells part of the story. Before choosing a position, it helps to look at three practical factors side by side: the skills a role draws on, the time it realistically takes each month, and how much responsibility it carries for other people's work. Reading the matrix this way makes it easier to pick something you can sustain, rather than something that sounds appealing but quickly becomes a burden.
Skills each role tends to need
- Coordinator: organisation, clear delegation and calm problem-solving when plans change at short notice.
- Communications Officer: confident writing, a feel for social media and, in Phnom Penh, ideally the ability to work in both Khmer and English so messages reach the whole community.
- Event Organizer: planning, budgeting basics and comfort liaising with venue managers, suppliers and local authorities where permissions are needed.
- Fundraising Specialist: research, persuasive proposal writing and careful record-keeping so every contribution can be accounted for.
- Member Support: patience, good listening and a solid knowledge of where to point people for help.
Thinking about time and responsibility
Some roles are steady and predictable, such as Member Support, which often runs on a few regular hours each week. Others are seasonal: event work peaks in the weeks before a gathering and goes quiet afterwards, and fundraising may cluster around grant deadlines. Coordination usually carries the most accountability, because others depend on your decisions. If you are new, starting in a lighter role and moving into a leadership position later is a sensible path.
Sharing and rotating roles
Smaller associations frequently ask one person to cover two roles, while larger groups may split a single role between several volunteers. Either approach works if responsibilities are written down and handed over properly. A short handover note listing contacts, ongoing tasks and passwords managed through a shared, secure system saves a great deal of confusion when volunteers rotate.
To see how different groups organise their volunteers in practice, browse the association directory or look at upcoming activities on the events page. When you are ready to put your name forward, the join page explains the next steps.
