Preparing a Strong Spotlight Submission
A spotlight works best when readers come away knowing exactly what your organisation does and how they can take part. Before you send in your details, it helps to gather a few practical pieces of information so the feature can be clear, accurate and useful to other members across Phnom Penh.
What to include
- A short description in plain language. Two or three sentences explaining who you serve and why you exist. Avoid jargon so readers from very different sectors can follow.
- Where you operate. Mention the districts or neighbourhoods you work in, or whether your activities are online. This helps readers judge whether they can attend in person.
- How people can get involved. Volunteering, membership, partnerships or simply attending a public session. Be specific about what you actually need.
- Languages used. Many groups in the city work in Khmer, English or both. Stating this saves newcomers uncertainty.
- One concrete example. A recent project, workshop or community initiative tells a fuller story than a list of goals.
Keeping information accurate
Please check that names, contact channels and any dates you mention are current and that you have permission to share them. If you include photographs or stories about individuals, make sure those people have agreed to appear. Features are kept for reference, so outdated details can confuse readers later; if something changes after publication, let us know and we can note the update.
Connecting your spotlight to the wider community
A spotlight is often a starting point rather than the whole picture. Readers who enjoy a feature frequently go on to browse the full association directory or look for related groups among the local chapters. If your organisation hosts gatherings open to the public, listing them on the events page as well gives new contacts an easy way to meet you in person.
Smaller and newly formed groups are just as welcome as established ones. Often the most valued spotlights are those that introduce a quiet, local effort that many members simply had not heard of before.
